Art Basic Facts:
Sweden was left out of the artistic world for most of its history. Today the artists get their inspiration from overseas rather than their home. Sweden is well known for their woodcarvings, glass art, and paintings. Since a cultural exchange did not take place, folk art motifs and influences the development of modern design. Sweden has a good reputation for art and exports to contries all over the world.
Swedish Glass
Swedish glass whether it is used for household needs or art is very popular. Some exporters of the Swedish glass are Kosta and Orrefors which are part of the Kingdom of Crystal. The Kingdom of Crystal is located in Smaland and started in 1742.
Bjorn Ekegren(1955)
Bjorn is famous for his art in sculpting and glass creations. His sculptures are created by using a sand casting technique which is similar to the technique the Egyptians used 2000 years ago. Bjorn uses colors such as blue and turquoise to represent the Mediterranean Sea. His glass art is influenced to create a unique form of expression and is influenced by faces and statues.

Painting
Carl Fredrik Reutersward (1934)
Carl started painting at the age of 14 and attended the Sweden Art Academy of Stockholm. He was one of the few artists in Sweden that made it internationally. He was extremely creative and challenged by his art. Some of his pieces are: · Non-Violence · Knotted Gun Anders Zorn (1860-1920) Anders was highly known for painting people from his home, nudes in open aired settings, Dalarma, and three of the Presidents. Some of his famous pieces were: · Midsummer Dance · Musee d’ Orsay Carl Larsson (1853-1919) Carl was born in Sunborn and was known for his paintings from home and family. In the painting he tries to interpret the family life. His inspiration for his painting was his own family. He was also known for the use of watercolors which is now used over the world. WoodcarvingSince there is an abundance of forest in Sweden they are well known for their woodcarvings. This art of woodcarvings started with the Dalecalian Horse. Long ago in the old days the Dala Horse was only a toy for children to play with. In modern times the horse represents a symbol of Sweden. There were four villages that started the Dala horse:
